One Nation Under God
Well, ladies, it's that time of year again. Time to make potato salad, baked beans, fried chicken, apple pie, and lemonade. Yes, it's the 4th of July! Oh, there's just so much to do. We not only have to prepare the food, we have to fit it all into the picnic basket! We can't forget to pack all the plastic-ware, napkins, paper plates, cups, and, of course, the picnic blanket!
But have you ever stopped to think about what we're truly celebrating? Yes, we're celebrating the birth of our nation. (And as mothers, we know something about birth!) But do we actually know what it took to "bare" this nation?
Think about the time (or times) you gave birth. It was no easy task! The same is true about America. Men had to go through tremendous turmoil to give us such a beautiful Gift.
America, as you know, was founded on biblical principles with the idea of religious freedom in mind. Unfortunately for our ancestors, they were persecuted for their belief in the One true God. Just as our "soldier boys" were in great anguish and distress on the battlefield to bring us our independence, so our Baptist ancestors were to preserve and pass down to us our great heritage.
No matter how terrible we think our "persecution" is when we stand for God, it can never compare to what our Baptist forefathers went through. We must always remember this when we are tempted to complain about our trials and troubles in our present warfare.
Christians must also wake up and be made aware of the fact that we may one day face true persecutions and suffering for our faith. The question to ask yourself is, "Am I ready to do what I must for my Lord?" If your answer is no, now is the time to prepare. This is boot camp. Buckle down, look "up", and trust Him whole-heartedly to see you through whatever comes your way.
